In 2004 the Surrey Rockhound Club celebrated it's 40th anniversary. The Club is a proud member of

The BC Lapidary Society,

The Gem and Mineral Federation of Canada

and

The Arts Council of Surrey.

 

WHAT WE ARE ABOUT

The name of the Society is

"Surrey Rockhound Club"

The Purposes of the Society are:
To promote a greater understanding of minerology and Earth Sciences;
To provide instruction and guidance in protection of natural resources and the wise use of the outdoors;
To provide instruction in artistry from natural resources by:
     a) teaching the lapidary arts of cutting, polishing, faceting, sculpture, scrimshaw, silversmithing, and wirewrapping by utilizing natural rocks, gems and minerals;
     b) providing the facilities and tools necessary for instruction;
To create greater public awareness of family benefit of lapidary arts by hosting display shows.
To host educational visits by school children; youth groups and adults.
To create better family life both in our community and beyond, by promoting participation in the lapidary arts and outdoor rock hunting activities.

MEETINGS

General Meetings are the 4th Wednesday of each month. At St. Luke Parish Hall, 10177 - 148th St. , Surrey, B.C. (at the back of the church)

  WORKSHOP

The Club has a Workshop at the Sullivan Hall located at:
6302 152nd St., Surrey, BC.

Work shop evenings are open to members only and cost $2.00 per person. The workshop has cutting and polishing equipment so bring your shiny rock and make a gem of it. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Mondays are beginner rock cutting and polishing to cabochons. 7 - 9 PM There will be some experienced people there to help explain the procedures.
Tuesdays are faceting evenings. 7 - 9 PM. You must bring your own gems and equipment for this.
Wednesday mornings there are school tours for the next generation of rockhounds. These sessions must be prebooked for attendance.
Thursday evenings are general workshop: Stone carving, cutting, polishing, and getting to know each other. 7 - 9 PM
Friday evenings are general workshop as well: Stone cutting, polishing, carving, casting, and comparing finds are among the activities from 7 - 9 PM.

FIELD TRIPS AND OTHER EVENTS

There are field trips hosted by many rock clubs throughout the year for members of rock clubs. Members should consult their club newsletter's field trip section.
